The cement industry's carbon emissions demand a fresh approach.
Traditional cement production, notably Portland cement, is notorious for its large carbon footprint. As the world seeks sustainable ways to lower emissions in the buildings sector, it becomes increasingly critical to reevaluate the methods used in cement manufacturing.
Geopolymer cements have emerged as a viable low-carbon alternative to Portland cement. They have already gained traction in Australia and show great potential. One of their key advantages is the reduced set-up costs for new production plants compared to traditional cement facilities. These innovative cements are particularly well-suited for non-structural applications such as footpaths and precast concrete, making them a practical choice for low carbon construction projects.
