Our exceptional solar and wind resources, and advancements in big batteries and pumped hydro assets can position Australia as a world leader in renewable energy. Excess energy stored in big batteries plays a key role in backing up or 'firming' the grid. To rapidly progress to a zero-emissions economy, we need to accelerate the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. Multi-scale energy storage systems in homes and commercial buildings will also be required to ensure a stable power supply.
