The Buildings Pathway

Heat pumps, electrification & efficiency

We can achieve 100% emissions reduction in Australia's buildings sector with today's technologies

Commercial and residential buildings account for one fifth of Australia’s emissions, primarily from electricity use, and burning gas for heating, hot water and cooking. The solutions across all types of buildings are fundamentally similar, though the scale and complexity of installation varies.

To rapidly reduce buildings emissions we need:

1. Increased energy efficiency

  • Minimise energy waste with insulation, draft proofing and double glazing
  • Use efficient lighting and appliances to reduce energy consumption

2. Electrification

  • Heat pumps for heating and cooling, and for hot water too
  • Induction cooktops for cooking
  • Electric transport such as cars and bikes
