The Million Jobs Plan rebuilds our economy after the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic and secures a strong future for all Australians. The Million Jobs Plan shows how, in just five years, renewables and low emissions projects can deliver 1.8 million new jobs in the regions and communities where these are needed most. As well as creating new jobs, these opportunities will have many lasting benefits such as revitalising Australian manufacturing industry and improving air quality.

The Million Jobs Plan can rebuild Australia’s economy

Australia faces three urgent economic challenges: reducing unemployment; reducing public debt and improving living standards. The Million Jobs Plan will give a major boost to diverse business sectors and provide jobs throughout Australia – over 70% in regional areas. The plan delivers results almost immediately and its benefits persist for many years. It has been delivered in consultation with dozens of organisations and individuals from across Australia.

Chris Murphy, former Treasury economist, undertook an independent economic analysis and found The Million Jobs Plan will:

  • Boost private investment by $25 billion annually, or nearly 2% of GDP, and add 1 to 2% to GDP
  • Increase real wages by 1% in 2022-2023 and 2% by 2035-2036
  • Create an estimated 124,000 more jobs by the 2021 financial year
  • Give a major boost to diverse business sectors and provide jobs throughout Australia – over 70% in regional areas.
  • Deliver results almost immediately and its benefits will persist for many years
