NSW Government embraces green energy future

• Hunter Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct will generate $11b in annual revenue

The NSW Government has embraced the green industry future with today’s announcement it will be investing $550 million in renewable energy, clean manufacturing and transmission infrastructure in the Hunter Valley. Just last week it was revealed that companies had expressed interest in building $100 billion worth of renewables projects in the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone.

“The NSW Government is leading the way as coal-fired power stations announce early closures and has embraced the future by aiming to create long-term sustainable jobs in clean energy and green manufacturing,” said Beyond Zero Emissions Hunter Project Manager Sam Mella.

“The NSW Government has acted swiftly and this investment will help create thousands of jobs in clean industries and renewables concentrated in the Hunter Valley when we need them. It shows that workers and communities in the Hunter will continue to be the backbone of Australia’s energy and manufacturing as these industries are powered by cheaper renewables.

“The transmission infrastructure, which will also connect the Central West Orana and New England Renewable Energy Zones to the Hunter, is vitally important to establish a Renewable Energy Industry Precinct in the region.

“Renewable energy-powered manufacturing is a billion-dollar opportunity for the state. Beyond Zero Emissions’ research shows that a Hunter Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct could attract $28 billion in investment, support 34,000 jobs and generate $11 billion in annual revenue by 2032.”
