Beyond Zero Emissions is pleased to announce the appointment of our inaugural fellow, Professor David A Hood AM, as our BZE Engineering Champion.
Established in 2009, Beyond Zero Emissions is a volunteer powered climate solutions think tank. Our Mission is to show a zero emissions Australia is achievable and affordable now. Engineers will play a unique role in the transition to zero emissions across all sectors of the Australian economy. As a BZE Fellow – Engineering Champion, Prof Hood will encourage and support engineers to become a vital part of Australia’s response to climate change.
David will promote the ambitious, globally recognised research of Beyond Zero Emissions to engineers, and engineering peak groups. David will also work to encourage engineers to sign onto the ‘Engineers Declare’ movement across Australia.
David is a civil and environmental engineer with more than 35 years experience across major civil and military projects, professional development in emerging economies, senior management in both the public and private sectors and in education.
In late 2014 Prof Hood Founded the Long Future Foundation, a registered charity that aims to ensure a long future for all life on Earth. David is a Queensland Councillor and Director of the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF).
Beyond Zero Emissions’ CEO Vanessa Petrie said “Now, more than ever, we need the ingenuity, creativity, and can-do attitude that engineers are renowned for, to drive climate solutions across Australia. Beyond Zero Emissions is delighted that Professor Hood will champion the leadership role engineers can play as we move towards a zero carbon economy.”
Prof David Hood AM said: “As we face the climate and biodiversity emergencies, we must now move rapidly to a zero carbon economy. This will require very significant adjustments, not in technology, but in economic, institutional, cultural, and investment paradigms.
“Through Beyond Zero Emissions latest projects we are now moving into the how of implementing our acclaimed Plans and Reports. This is an exciting time to be taking on the new role of Inaugural BZE Fellow with an initial focus on bringing engineers on board to understand the Plans and assist in the implementation of a true Zero Carbon Australia” said Prof Hood.
