Many regional cities and towns around Australia have set ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or reach carbon neutrality over the next one to two decades. However, the large-scale projects and planning needed to reach these targets will require an understanding of the cities emissions profile, coordinated community action, as well as significant commitment and funding.
The Committee for Ballarat approached Beyond Zero Emissions to help gain a better understanding of the types of zero-carbon projects and financial models that will attract financial investment. With the fantastic support of National Australia Bank, via its Skilled Volunteer Immersion Program, Beyond Zero Emissions was able to support the Committee in undertaking an investigation into Ballarat’s industrial emissions – the largest component of its emissions profile. It is a true collaboration, drawing on skills from a diverse set of project organisers, engagement with many of Ballarat’s largest emitters and informed by BZE’s own Snapshot Tool.
Beyond Zero Emissions looks forward to being able to share and replicate learnings from this initiative in similarly profiled locations across the country.
